New site theme

I’ve just implemented a new site theme at Monica’s behest. At the time we talked about it, I was hesitant to change what I thought was a nice slick theme. However Monica found this current theme and it quickly grew on me. Let us know what you think!

Linden has recently started to shake his head. He likes to shake his head randomly and for no apparent reason, or maybe there is but we just haven’t figured it out. He especially likes to shake his head whilst eating and laughs at me when I try to imitate him. Sometimes he would be playing and then stops momentarily to shake his head, it’s quiet amusing because he actually shakes his head quiet fast. I tried copying him one time and it gave me a headache. I wonder if he gets dizzy doing it :)

It’s official. As of last week, Linden has been weaned. I think his immune system should well and truly be super, duper strong from 9 months worth of breast milk.

From about the 8 months I was only nursing him once a day, even then he was not really interested. So now I’m free, I can go out without any time constraint, maybe I should go on a holiday and leave Linden with Ivan, for some father and son bonding of course :D

Breastfeeding was tricky in the beginning and at times painful but now that Linden is weaned, I actually miss it. It’s so convenient, no need to prepare the bottle or wash the bottle (which is such a chore) and it’s not cheap. I miss Linden looking up at me, playing with my pendant and sometimes swinging his ‘happy feet’ but most of all I miss the closeness between us.

Linden is now having about 3 -4 formula feeds per day of approximately 180ml and I’m happy to say that he actually likes it, which is a drastic turnaround from those early days of weaning. So it’s all good, Linden is happy and healthy and therefore I’m too.

I’m tracking quite well these last few months in getting pictures out on time. Find Linden’s month 10 photos HERE.

Two weeks ago I entered Linden into the Cumberland Courier’s Baby Academy Awards competition. I know it might sound lame, but we’re not in it to win just for the experience really. There were four categories: Messiest, Smiliest, Cheekiest & Most Peaceful. I entered Linden in the latter two categories. The prize for the category winners is a $50 voucher from Pumpkin Patch and the Grand Final winners will share $6000 in prizes. Apparently there were more than 14000 entries so I guess there are lots of parents out there who are proud and eager to showcase (or show off) their baby’s greatest moments. How sweet :D

The winners were announced and published in the North Shore Times on Wednesday and although Linden did not win it will make for a good story when he gets older.

Below are the photos that I entered. You be the judge.

Dada perhaps?

As a follow-up to my previous post about Linden’s first words, this evening Linden has redeemed himself somewhat. Monica was carrying Linden as all three of us came up the lift to our apartment. I babbled at Linden to get his attention at which point he reached for me with both arms and muttered “Dada”.

Success! So I gleefully grab him and we both gave him lots of loud praising that might have confused him. Hopefully he hasn’t forgotten the word association!

Two more top teeth has started to come through this week. So far these seemed to have caused Linden the most pain and discomfort. Poor little guy has woken up in the middle of the night a few crying because of the pain. In addition to this, he has been pulling and rubbing his ears constantly and also drooling alot more than usual.

I wonder how he will react when the molars come through? Part of growing pains I guess.

Okay so it’s official. Linden now has a vocabulary count of 1.

I’ve spent many a playtime with Linden just repeating the word “Papa”. He plays with toys and all he hears is “Papa”. At bathtime all he hears is “Papa”. Getting fed breakfast on weekends all he hears is “Papa”.

Finally he makes an association between word and object. Linden looks up at Monica and I and says, wait for it, “Ma-ma”. Then he reaches out to Monica for a cuddle. Of course I’m thinking that it’s a total fluke. This can’t be. So we try again.

“Ma-ma”, he gurgles and reaches out to Monica for a cuddle again. I’ve heard of lightning striking twice in the same spot. No, no, again, again.

“Ma-ma!”, he shouts reaching for his mummy. All Monica sees is the back of me with hands thrown in the air as I storm off to the kitchen to find some comfort food.
